FEENiXBy: Ingrid Smith

Born in Columbus, GA but raised mostly in Montgomery, AL this 17 year old artist is quickly becoming the word on the streets as the latest budding star and hot new femcee. Representing hard for Montgomery, Alabama (shouts out to Lee High School) on Dirty South TV, this independent artist's single "How You Do Dat" is floating through the Dirty like the Chattahoochee quenching our thirst for a Southern female artist's swag. Also Eddie Cain's Raw n Uncut Top 10 Video Winner for this edition, FEENiX makes it obvious that she is also building a dedicated and loyal fanbase, a neccessity in the business of hiphop.

"I would just like to say thank you to all the fans who voted for me and tell them to keep voting- and I want all my fans who watch my video and support me to know that I will always be loyal to them and the industry will never change me- and a special shout out to Carver High School," FEENiX sends her love and gratitude to everyone who has been boosting the beautiful young artist's buzz.
With grace of a Southern debutante, FEENiX drops spicy, sassy, and well enunciated lyrics that portray independence, and the young lady's positive, realistsic attitude towards life and love. Her debut mixtape "Senior Year" was released August 9th- and she has a tour planned aimed at junior high and high school audiances where she will be doing motivational speaking and performing her debut single. She is also the upcoming Common Sense campaign spokesperson for Dr. Hud's Vision Radio show starting in September, so be on the lookout for the femcee/activist- already on her way to proving once again that the mixture of Black music and activism will always exist and play a vital role in our community.
"FEENiX has always been the one to speak out for justice- she's always been an excellent student and a leader at school and in community activities, in everything she does she has always given it her all," Momager Angela Culliver talked to me about the daughter she obviously loves with her everything and when she speaks about FEENiX you can hear the glowing pride in her voice that she has raised such an independent and strong educated young lady. And Angela and FEENiX have big plans for the young artist's success. Mom is working hard in her role as active manager to educate herself even more about the business, and to promote and protect the young femcee and her brand in the shark infested waters of the music business. Spending plenty of time on developing FEENiX into an industry powerhouse is the main goal for this mother/daughter team in the near future, and making sure Senior Year is a widely circulated mixtape that illustrates this femcee's talents. The team plans to make sure Senior Year allures hiphop fans into loving the 17-year old sensation reppin' Georgia and Alabama: FEENiX- and that they continue the ride with her throughout a flourishing and positive career. Do yo' thing lil' mama. Do yo' thing.

"Alabama Spotlight"

Eddie CainBy: Eddie Cain

This past week on my Facebook page there were over 20 very creative videos that really impressed me. I mean coming out of Columbus with the quality of these videos, one would think that the artist spent some big time production money on them, or shot the videos in some other city. The talent in this city has gone unnoticed for way too long now. From the artists to the directors all the way to the editing of these videos, it really is amazing what we have right here in our area. On Monday, August 15 all the way through Friday, August 19 the voting started. A few videos fell off, but some new ones have appeared. This week once again FEENiX came in at #1 with "How You Do Dat" Featuring Yung Gwalla and directed by Yung Sasso of Get Money Ent. Shot right here in Columbus, "How You Do Dat" is the first single off FEENiX's first album titled "SENiOR YEAR", with a following from all over, it's no wonder why FEENiX has this party track at #1 again. I really enjoyed this video, it's kind of funny because I was on the phone with my two youngest children Jada and Destiny were singing the hook to this song and asked if I seen the video on YouTube, now my kids live in South Carolina and they have never met FEENiX a day in their lives. FEENiX is most Definitely one of the hottest artists to look out for, and I salute you FEENiX for all that you are doing! Keep bringing those hot videos for the world to see.

So far, "How you do Dat" has won two weeks in a row! The contest takes place on Facebook. To vote just find the post that has the "How you do Dat" video and "Like" the post. The winner is featured in the Courier Newspaper. E-mail blasts will be sent out on Facebook when it's time to vote. Join Team FEENiX to get automatic emails.

Dirty South TV, the Atlanta-based Music Television Network, has launched their new Artist Development Program. The new ADP will enable artists and bands to get their music, image, presentation and branding all in order to shop to record labels that are looking for already developed and established artists and bands. Due to the lack of funds in these tough financial times, it is becoming a common business practice for record labels to pass over undeveloped artists and bands in favor of those that are ready to "package and sell to the consumer." In the old days, record labels put money into properly developing the artists and bands that they would sign on to their roster. Today's absence of artist development by record labels creates the question "Why do we need the label?" from many of today's still emerging artists and bands. On one hand, the labels still have all of the record stores in place for distribution of their artists' albums; on the other hand, the independent artists can now make their money from their own online album and merchandise sales, not to mention what they can sign and sell at their live performances.

With Dirty South TV's new ADP, at least the artists will have both options to explore, increasing their chance to make it bigger, faster and with less "start-up money from their own pockets."

This new program will be on a limited basis so that each artist or band will have the proper attention that is needed. The formula that Dirty South TV has come up with is "one artist/band per U.S. State," thus having a total of no greater than 50 artists or bands at any one time that they are helping. This way, each artist or band has a better chance of using all of their new tools and contacts to their full advantage and advancement. Dirty South TV explains, "Any more than 50 would dilute the program and render its strengths useless--like everything else that is out there as an option for these artists and bands these days."

Dirty South TV officially announced the signing of three artists already, one from Alabama--FEENiX, one from Arizona--Lori Richardson and one from Georgia--Liz Lee.
